Mummy Candy: timing the hook and using the scissors

The big sweets are tempting. They also take time to pull out of the ground, and in Mummy Candy the clock keeps running while the mummy hauls them up. The first level gives you 60 seconds to collect 700 points. You can land several catches and still finish short.

The three screenshots below show a round that ended at 415 points. They give a useful view of the hook, the scissors, and what happens when time runs out.

Play Mummy Candy

Wait for the angle, then tap

The hook swings by itself. Click or tap the play area when it points toward the sweet you want. Tapping directly on a candy won't aim the hook at it; the angle at the moment you release the tap decides where it goes.

Once the rope is out, you have to wait for it to come back. Repeated taps won't send another hook. Watch the path to your next target during the return trip, especially if a closer object sits in front of it.

40 points, 47 seconds left. The orange candy is still on its way up.

Your score is in the upper-left corner, above the level number. The target and timer are on the right. In this shot, the 700 is the target, not the score already earned.

A catch still has to come back

Some objects return more slowly than others. Before sending the hook a long way down, check the timer: there needs to be enough time to reach the candy and bring it back.

Early in a round, you have room for a longer trip. Near the end, a smaller sweet on a clear, shorter path may be the better choice. Missing altogether is expensive, too—the hook still has to make the return journey.

At 155 points with 18 seconds left, this round is still 545 points short.

The green candy is already on the rope here. The decision now is whether to finish pulling it up or spend the remaining cut and try something else. A cut only helps if the time it saves leaves room for a better catch.

What the scissors actually do

Tap the scissors while the hook is returning to discard the object and bring the hook back faster. On a keyboard, press Space. Cutting uses one charge and gives up the catch, including the points you would have earned from it.

The counter beside the scissors shows what's left. It reads x1 in the first two screenshots and x0 in the last. At x0, the button is dimmed and you can't cut again.

It's worth saving that cut for an unwanted, slow object. If a useful candy is almost back at the surface, let it finish; there isn't much time left to save on that trip.

415 points wasn't enough

Game Over: 415 points, a 700-point target, zero seconds, and no scissors remaining.
The clock reached zero with 285 points still missing.

This loss came from finishing below the target. Using the last pair of scissors didn't end the game, and collecting everything in the ground wasn't required.

On the next attempt, watch where the seconds go. If the hook keeps coming back empty, adjust when you tap. If you're landing catches but falling short, pay more attention to the time spent hauling each one up. Those are different problems, even when they lead to the same Game Over screen.
